Just got a pop-up on my laptop which I think is the eventvwr scam - Microsoft Community


just got pop-up on laptop.  pop-up says following:

             ** computer has been blocked **

error # 3658ecf2d32da10

please call at: (877) 759-9160

please not ignore safety alert.  if close page before calling us, computer access disabled prevent further damage our network.

computer has alerted has been infected spyware , virus.  our systems detected following information compromised...

> facebook login
> credit card number
> email account login
> photos stored on computer

must call our engineers can walk through removal process on phone.  certified windows support agent standing call right now.  toll free: (877) 759-9160

when called number operator tried me type in eventvwr.  told him calling microsoft validate , call , hung up.  of posts in community mention being called wasn't called, got pop-up on computer!  how did pop-up here?  have virus?   thanks.

its pop-up scam, see https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/safety/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx#scampopup and complete article page. this https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-1-877-695-4931-virus/ gives more information similar scam number.

do not call number, not give them access pc, , tell them no information (passwords, ip address etc).

as check, update antivirus program , run full scan. download, install, update , run full scan (free) malwarebytes. keep free, no need activate trial unless wish later purchase product. see if of scan's find , remove malware. if after scans pop-up still occurring see above links more detailed scanning , resetting browsers etc.

if have given them access ( i.e. remotely logged pc ) change all passwords ( pc, email , banking etc ), , if banking on pc notify bank has happened.
