i have been using windows 10 member of windows insider program since beta testing. on january 2 performed maintenance on computer using iobit advance system care 10. scan computer once week. after scan rebooted computer usual. time computer displayed windows splash screen , went black screen mouse pointer , nothing else. cold booted and it did same thing. booted windows 10 recovery disk, same thing. using windows 10 professional 64 bit on gateway computer.  intel i3-2120 processor , 8 gb of memory.  check hard disk failure, booted linux mint live cd, , can read entire hard drive. any appreciated...peter hi peter, to better assist you, know following information: do see black screen before or after signing in windows? do use multiple monitors? have tried booting monitor connected integrated graphics port on motherboard? in meantime, kindly try troubleshooting steps on following link: troubleshoot

this recent.  upgraded win7 ultimate windows 10 professional on 5 months ago.  install went super smooth, has gone since then.  on past few weeks, windows has been freezing approx. 45 seconds 2 minutes after start up.  @ first, giving me blue screen saying windows detected problem, collect data, , restart.  giving kernal error messages, different reason.  now, when freezes, freezes, mouse , keyboard have no function, screen frozen, if running, task manager because trying watch.  have cold shut down holding power button 10 seconds.  restart , once in while, freeze again, of time, fine second try onward. i have dell xps 9100 2011, limited number made.  intel quad core 3.20 ghz 18 gb ram, , dual hard drives @ 7200 rpm.  speedy machine.  of time, when calm, cpu usage 0 or 1%, there no runaway programs using resources.  hard drive activity stays calm @ 0% unless webroot or automatic updates doing thing.  have no problems.  did check windows version, anniv

somehow administrator password on 1 of computers has become corrupted. understand it, 1 of other users got message on page the  admin password out if date , needed reset. closed notice , went on business. cannot sign in admin because no password have ever had won't work , reset disc won't either. options? here go: use windows 10 repair flash disk boot machine windows repair mode. use system restore set windows point when able log on. plan ahead little , create, test , document spare admin account, same have spare house key , same reason. how used work account in windows 10? i sign-in surface running windows 10 using work account.  the user experience terrible, because i'm finding many of features not work in windows 10 without creating or using microsoft account.   for example, cannot remove "microsoft account" in calendar app.  i did not not create microsoft account, i'm not sure why it's there , why it's default calendar?!?   another example cortana.  it not provide features without "microsoft account." another example getting onenote setup correctly sync'ing. all of combined affecting productivity, thought put microsoft ahead of competition. hello, this morning windows 10 asked reboot ending last cumulatives patches installation kb4013418 , kb40134. after reboot menu entry linked windows store missing , icon on menu right side. i don't remember how manytimes had reinstall windows 10 or redo menu structure , occurs on pc after patch installation or randomly. the powershell command get-appxpackage -allusers | foreach {add-appxpackage -disabledevelopmentmode -register "$($_.installlocation)\appxmanifest.xml" create store entries menu , not menu structure itself, customisation lost. i didn't found answer microsoft on how backup , restore menu structure when occurs. of corse will  beter if ms engineers can fixe recurent issue!!!! solution? if found windows 10 interface interesting, time lost in bugs (file lost, corruption of data, menu) impressive !!! productivity fails more 10% since forced upgrate

how change bnightness of screen , there no option of brightness adjustment in display settings hi abhishek, you might not see change brightness slider because you're using desktop pc attached external monitor. adjust brightness, may have use buttons on it. refer manufacturer appropriate function of buttons. otherwise, if using laptop, update display adapter drivers , check if make difference. go device manager > display adapters > right-click > update driver or uninstall . restart device afterwards. let know how goes. have 2 win10 computers; cpu1 connected via wired ethernet; cpu2 connected via wi-fi;   if right-click on screen , personalize, both computers set background=slideshow. on 1 computer have selected specific folder of pictures, displayed correctly. on other computer selected different folder of pictures display. why changing folder of pictures display on 1 computer, end changing pictures being displayed on both computers? on preview panel, there setting called "choose albums slideshow". setting changes selected folder desktopbackground, , displays pictures selected on other computer. if using same microsoft account log both machines have option sync windows settings (on default, think) go settings -> accounts -> sync settings, , turn off theme. should allow different selection of pictures on each device. hi, i upgraded pc weeks ago creators update. after started hang after around 15 minutes of usage. reboot, , 15 minutes later, hangs. , in hangs mean applications stop answer, can move mouse around, nothing works. i've been digging in logs find anything, no error message ever displayed. after reading bit online, decided fresh install emptying drive , starting over, however, issue remains. my computer has been running windows 8, 8.1, 10, 1511 , 1602 without issues. i'm lost ideas, although i'm considering upgrading pc. however, microsoft want me buy new windows well, sad, windows reason not working. hi kenneth, you might experiencing issue because of outdated or incompatible device drivers. since experience problem after upgrading creators update, it's possible current drivers on computer designed previous version of windows. check if updated driver available, kindly follow steps on
