Windows 10: Settings do not hold...Windows Live Mail, Firefox, - Microsoft Community

i posted part of issue in windows live mail when thought problem; have found deeper.

i have pasted original query below, first expand on have discovered since.

after starting cold start, have:

• gone through drill of setting windows live mail scratch, accessing new mail, no reflection of old mail or contacts stored on pc. 
• added second [pop] mail account wlm
• installed [reinstalled really] firefox
• opened ms word 2007, though acted new profile , did not display saved documents.  documents on pc hard drive , can located windows explorer , opened successfully.
• dragged ms word link desktop
• pinned ms word link task bar
• run malwarebytes anti-malware successfully, finding no malware [that accident when intended click on firefox icon on desktop.

all of sounds good, doing restart results in changes disappearing if had never been done.  have run in circles several times same outcome no matter path take in responding options.

this pc has been used wife sometime , systems "go" until few days ago.  appears have lost ability retain information.  working again, reconnecting emails, contacts, bookmarks, etc., sure on hard drive,

i need help.

my wife turned on computer couple days ago, opened request sign in windows live mail 2012 choices "sign-in" or "dismiss".  after trying dismiss , running in circles, entered windows essentials gmail address, password, , signed in.  brought gmail account messages.  however, use our gmail accounts ensure our pop mail goes our cell phones (long story, not germane here). 

i tried same pop mail accounts (personal , family) successful in bringing new mail, mail sub-folders including sent, deleted, saved, etc., not displayed.  assume reside somewhere on pc routinely download messages pc (not leaving them on server), have no idea how reinsert them in live mail display viewing/use.

contacts missing.

i noted when opened internet browser, no longer "installed".  use firefox , had recreate (not download, open if first time.  no bookmarks, etc.

i tried doing system restore earlier restore point (3/1/17) , received "fail" message.  tried again other displayed restore point (2/20/17) , failed.  "fail" message was: 

"failed extract original copy of directory restore point.

destination: appxstaging

an unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x8007025d)"

before proceeding further , creating bigger mess, coming community assistance...a wonderful resource on previous occasions.

the applicable computer desktop running windows 10 (since first available) no problems.

so, summarize, in windows live mail, missing mail messages, content of mail folders, , contacts.  in firefox, settings missing , there no bookmarks, etc.
