Windows 10 Werfault.exe error - Microsoft Community


since todayen receive error message 

werfault.exe application error

unknown software exception (0xc0000096) occurred in application on location 0xc...

this appears when want open word or excell files, or when tried install adobe reader

what solution please?

hello frederik,

we know more concern, please provide following information:

  • is first time encounter error?
  • did make changes computer's configuration prior issue?
  • are experiencing error when trying open other files?


werfault.exe used windows error reporting. feature allows microsoft track , address errors relating operating system, windows features, , applications.

in mean time, let's try turning off temporarily see if resolve problem. follow these steps instructions:

  1. click start , type services in start search , press enter.
  2. locate windows error reporting service in services list.
  3. right-click on , click properties.
  4. open startup type list , select disable.
  5. click ok.
  6. check , see if still getting werfault.exe error.

WTouch_Message_Window app running in the background is preventing - Microsoft Community

Windows error No Certificate Available - Microsoft Community
