VIDEO TDR FAILURE - when monitor connected on restart - Microsoft Community

i have purchased laptop john lewis in clearance lines. used laptop, had been factory reset.

i bought have same model , needed additional 1 staff.

i have windows 10 pro installed on , works fine, apart when monitor connected it.

the monitor connected through hdmi , when plugged laptop, whilst laptop on, works should. problem when laptop restarted, laptop starts flicker between start screen , seems turning it's self off. after approx. 20 seconds a  blue screen appears following message:

stop code: video tdr failure

what failed: igdkm64.sys

if laptop started without hdmi lead attached, laptop starts fine, can plug in once started , works fine...it's annoying.

my laptop (same model number) doesn't have issue, that's don't understand. if use new laptop on screen has same issue.

i have looked through quite few google , bing searches, cannot seem find solution.

can help?

thanks.

issue solved!

i've been pulling hair out days have got answer needed. no computer expert , purely user rather fixer, makes prouder moment solved this.

i purchased windows 10 pro update windows 8. when installed had change bios screen

"exit tab > os optimized defaults > other os"

this completed windows 10 install. has worked well, couldn't have monitor plugged in on start or restart crashed laptop , told me had:

stop code: video tdr failure

what failed: igdkm64.sys

so after mirroring 2 laptops , going through each tab/section/display noticed in 'intel(r) hd graphics' (click windows icon , start type graphics, appear) 'options , support > information center > @ bottom of left hand column 2 laptops different.

the working laptop said 'graphics output protocol (gop) verison:......

and other said video bios:.....

so went bios screen , checked through options again mirroring two, see needed change.

in bios "boot" boot mode > needs show [uefi]

i had change under exit > os optimized defaults > [win8 64bit]

make sure save changes!! restart happen.

i can leave monitor plugged in through hdmi , start every time without crashing laptop

i hope helps if having same issue. please mark helpful if does.

thanks, relieved , happier user.
