ChkDsk Problem at computer startup - Microsoft Community


hi everyone,

i have 2-year old dell laptop works fine. 2 days ago, updated windows 10 creators update (from anniversary update). since then, every time start computer up, after showing dell logo, displays, 'press key skip disk checking'. but, when reaches 7 seconds left, message automatically disappears, , computer boots , works fine. laptop works , don't think has problems. worried. mean there problem hard drive? or bug?

i tried disabling chkntfs /x c:, didn't work.

any ideas on this?

please provide answers following able learn more issue you're experiencing:

  • are drivers up-to-date? if not yet, can follow steps found on link on how update drivers in windows 10.
  • have tried running chkdsk /f /r command in command prompt fix errors on disk? if not yet, here's how:
  1. right-click start icon, choose command prompt (admin) execute command prompt window.
  2. type chkdsk /f /r, press enter key keyboard.

if above mentioned steps have been followed , message still appears when booting laptop, best contact laptop manufacturer there might issue hard drive.

can consider running hardware , devices troubleshooter first before contacting laptop manufacturer find , repair problems devices , hardware. can follow these steps run said troubleshooter:

  1. right-click start icon, select control panel.
  2. choose large icons option view by drop down list found on upper-right part of control panel window.
  3. locate select troubleshooting.
  4. click view all left pane.
  5. locate , click hardware , devices run troubleshooter follow next steps.

let know happens after doing troubleshooting steps above.
