embarrassing accident - help needed to reset my preferred local user - Microsoft Community

hi - can't remember trying yesterday online guide suggested hit 'home + sleep' did , seem give monitor flicker , shutdown pc [running windows 10, on older machine 32 bit 64 bit processing]

now user logon password seems have been reset , error message instructs me go account.live.com/password/reset appears to reset microsoft account password - want able log onto pc.

i had account set friend helped me the pc up , running, , using user account write [i didn't prefer user name of account - trivial know].  start scratch  but had set lot of preferences , playlists , sort of thing can't access. = \

both user accounts set 'administrator'

is there easy way me reset password word on preferred local user account or should put down lesson learned , on setting new local user account on pc.  couldn't figure how change name of account 1 more preferred hence starting other one.

hope question makes sense , can offer instruction/advice either way.

in addition - 'home + sleep' instruction screenshot, remember , thought odd not use 'prtscrn' button followed blindly - um, 'home + sleep' ?

many thanks

cathy

hi cathy,

we suggest system restore on pc. system restore monitor changes on system , saves system state restore point. if issue occurs result of system change, can return system previous state using data created restore point.

system restore not restore user data or documents, not cause lose files, email, browsing history, or favorites.

to perform system restore, follow steps below:

  1. on sign in page, press , hold shift button click restart (click power icon see restart).
  2. click troubleshoot.
  3. click advanced options.
  4. click system restore.
  5. follow on-screen prompts.

let know how goes.

thank you.
