Windows 10 critical update 05/23/2017 crashed my computer - Microsoft Community

i've done windows 10 pro update yesterday before going bed , system run unusually long time (over 30 minutes). left running overnight. today found computer showing error (can't remember error, saying update did not complete). restarted computer few times , allows me enter pin number. desktop not show up. black screen , left start logo, search box , task view flash every 2 seconds.

i able press ctrl + alt + delete , task manager. run sfc /scannow in administrator mode @ end console window closed itself. log shows many lines errors. performed system restore restore point before critical updates. restore completed successfully, system same before. seems restore has weak point, not restore of critical files. opened control panel , went system , security - fix problems windows update. "an error occurred while troubleshooting. troubleshooting wizard can't continue - error code 0x8007005". run reset.cmd script, restarted computer, nothing changed (still can't run troubleshooter).

i performed system restore, @ older restore point. time, see desktop , icons few seconds, got again flashing black background , bottom icons.

i run again sfc /scannow , says windows resource protection did not find integrity violations. used instructions here, without success: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-start/win-10-upgraded-desktop-icons-not-showing/0ecef694-b32c-47df-af1e-314400d67f66

i decided reset pc, while keeping user files. operation went smoothly, except outcome. @ end of resetting, computer booted , showed blue screen "recovery - pc/device needs repaired. operating system couldn't loaded because kernel missing or contains errors. file: \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. error code 0xc0000221".

i amazed how windows 10 can have many things badly messed up! computer working, because have dual os (opensuse runs fine).

luckily, i've backed computer few days ago. booted recovery cd, went browse image, surprise! appears back-ed files, not system! damn!

found out have windows image backup last week. had usb hard disk connected computer , set weekly backup. selected perform backup when prompted, forgot it. happy having that, because easier restore computer image, fix unusual windows problems. after restoring system, able install latest windows updates , run sfc /scannow all good. pay more attention weekly backups, on main computer...
