Problem with encrypted files - Windows does not seem to recognise me - Microsoft Community

hi,

i had error message appearing in office 365 applications yesterday. contacted office 365 support, , remoted pc , took me through number of steps resolve issue. part of these steps asked delete of "generic credentials" in windows credentials list. fixed issues had in office 365, noticed shortly afterwards unable access of windows encrypted files.

i set encryption on pc using built-in windows functionality last year (i.e. right-clicking on folders, going properties, advanced, , ticking box next "encrypt contents secure data"). has worked well, , have never had issues accessing encrypted files until after call office 365 support yesterday. given "access denied" , similar error messages when try open encrypted files (word, excel, pdf, power point). non-encrypted files can still opened normally.

i contacted office support team again, unable me because apparently windows issue, not office issue. given different number windows support, , after going through numerous individuals ended suggested run windows restore. have tried doing numerous times, including anti-virus switched off, , in safe mode, restore fails. told restore has "failed extract" file.

i noticed when try create copy of encrypted file taken through 2 steps. first, told need administrator privileges perform task (which have, click continue). told "you need permission perform action. require permission [username] make changes file". odd thing logged in [username]. appears windows no longer recognises am. there no other users set on pc, , no 1 other me uses or has ever used it.

any suggestions on how can fix issue appreciated.
