Desktop, Documents, Pictures, and Videos have disappeared - Microsoft Community

i installed itunes update, , when update completed, prompted restart computer.  after re-starting, windows log in screen appeared normally, , usual password worked.  i have 1 local account on pc.  when desktop opened, many (but not all) links on desktop missing , desktop wallpaper reverted default.  when click on file explorer, of quick access , pc folders empty (except os (c:) , hp_recovery (d:)).  the programs icons on desktop act though brand new, itunes tries show me tutorial, chrome asks me install browser, etc.

fortunately, of documents, music, videos, etc. still exist.  i can find them clicking, in file explorer, on network, smith-hp (smith not last name, idea), users, smith.

it though windows has created , logged me new user instead of actual user.  when click on start icon , person icon, options change account settings, lock, or sign out.  when sign out, there 1 account sign in on, , nothing has changed.

obviously, reinstall missing programs, copy , paste of documents, music, pictures, etc. network pc, going time consuming.  

is there way me log in original user?  

why think happened, , can keep happening again?

type user accounts on start menu, , click on it. see if still have account.
