Microsoft Defender Self Started and Disabled - Microsoft Community

i have had computer 5 years , purchase , install norton.  norton has been running last 5 years.  today, internet on computer went down , notice defender icon.  never seen defender icon.  defender has never been on computer because had norton.  defender apparently took on , disabled norton.  not run virus scan or anything.  matter of fact norton not run @ all.  once got internet on computer, norton icon not work.  when click on norton not open, when did open got "coming soon".  able log in norton on web. took me hour try (no scans or work).  after while norton dashboard said offline.  tried re-install , not anything. able uninstall , reinstall.  norton began work again.  after hour noticed defender icon , internet going in , out.  not sure issue hope not virus.

i installed windows 10 update maybe week ago.  never had problem update.  no other updates or installed today while of going on.

it appears you're having problems between norton , windows defender. if you're using third-party antivirus program, windows defender disabled once third-party program registers provider windows. know if you've made changes computer aside updating windows. let's check if problem due corruption in system files using system file checker tool. tool scans , repairs corrupted or damaged system files on computer.
