Icons missing - Microsoft Community
i noticed yesterday desktop icons had disappeared. had finished cad session, thought perhaps had ram fragmentation or other minor issue , shut down.
this evening, when booted up, saw same thing. desktop icons missing. strangely enough, labels still present , highlight , click on them. icons supposed however, it's empty space (nothing click, no selection box, nothing). on taskbar, google chrome, file explorer , notepad icons had been replaced default 'window' icon.
opening computer , file explorer resulted in similar, can see below. missing icons , strange 'bullets' instead of drop-down arrows.
i have gone through several forums, including 1 , have tried suggestions , none of them resolved situation:
1. ran system file checker through command prompt. got message "windows resource protection did not find integrity violations"
2. rolled recent windows updates , restarted system
3. checked make sure tablet mode turned off
4. adjusted display settings
5. ran full system scan kaspersky internet suite (all clean)
6. couple of other suggestions can't remember.
what's got me worried thought use system restore go earlier restore point. when tried access it, got message: 'there unexpected error on property page. catastrophic failure (0x8000ffff). , can't see of restore points (i have 4 restore points).
