BitLocker not encrypting? - Microsoft Community
we have several hp elitepad 1000 g2 tablets running windows 10 pro want set encryption on.
order of events doing accomplish encryption are:
1. turn on bitlocker control panel > system , security
2. select "save file" when asked how wanted recovery key
3. select "encrypt entire drive" , "new encryption mode"
@ point, of tablets spend hours apparently encrypting ssd. of tablets said encryption done after few moments.
4. add startup pin
5. restart tablet make sure pin prompted (it was)
6. check encrypted status of tablet entering "manage-bde -status c:" @ command prompt. all tablets reported someting like:
volume c: [windows]
[os volume]
size: 103.67 gb
bitlocker version: 2.0
conversion status: fully encrypted
percentage encrypted: 100.0%
encryption method: xts-aes 128
protection status: protection on
lock status: unlocked
identification field: unknown
key protectors:
tpm , pin
numerical password
7. check whether bitlocker encrypting files on c: drive
a. create new text file on c: drive
b. copy file usb flash drive (or email attachment)
c. download file on system
upon opening file on other system, found not encrypted , visible in clear text.
there seems fundamental missing or misunderstanding bitlocker supposed doing.
link (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd163562.aspx) indicates encryption available on ntfs (which tablet formatted as), , if copy file floppy disk or other file system, file no longer encrypted. i'm assuming old information (the "floppy disk" part kind of dates it) not relevant bitlocker.
it working should. if in bitlocker'd system , copy file location, isn't going encrypted.
if want file encrypted you'll have encrypt @ file level or bitlocker external device.
