windows 10 wont start - checking media fail - Microsoft Community

recently daughter's pc has started coming 'media check:fail' on start up. runs repair tool, trys disc scan, 'diagnosing pc' , repair -  but nothing seems work. have seen 'watchdog violation' , 'no boot device found.'

i have downloaded window10 onto usb , insert usb drive before press power button. after minute or 2 windows setup screen comes up, asks me languages , go onto next screen select 'repair computer"-> troubleshoot. select 'startup repair' comes 'diagnosing pc' , round go again -> "startup repair couldn't repair machine' go advanced options.

not sure try next.

ok, first thing check boot order in bios

just system starts, text 'press f2 enter setup' , may esc or del key enter bios

on uefi boot order check make sure 'windows boot manager @ top of list or selected boot device

save bios setttings , try boot pc

if not work, try this:

start system, after manufacturers logo disappears , windows 10 tries boot, press , hold power button down 5 - 10 seconds perform hard shut down

do twice

on third boot attempt, windows boot windows 10 repair environment, there can access startup recovery, safe mode, command prompt . . . etc.

go troubleshoot - advanced options - system restore, see if have recent restore point can revert to

if not have recent restore point, go troubleshoot - advanced options - startup settings, click restart.
upon restart press 4 boot safe mode, if can safe mode, backup data, reboot , see if system boots normally

if fails go troubleshoot - advanced options - reset pc, choose keep files , apps
re-install windows 10 whilst keeping data , applications
