Expired Security License AND MORE! - Microsoft Community

well, first off let me thought smarter here goes... in january received phone call - wrote @ time.....

this morning received phone call thought said windows or  microsoft. had computer license number , showed me go verify legitimate all. showed me many of programs had stopped running, including windows defender. showed me many of programs had stopped running. showed me many of emails had threats red exclamation points.

he proceeded remove threats , programs running again. mind suspicious beginning , continued tell him so. assured me selling nothing , windows monitored computers on world.  showed me said computer shut down today!!

looking knew scam convinced me not!  don’t know why fell did.  had me download program can control computer husband’s computer!!  (how stupid???).

he convincing agreed lifetime security , computers have or ever have!! 

at point took control of both computers. had take husband urgent care , time returned, both computers had information them on them nothing work.

after having few hours think had done, contacted norton find out if thought had done true.  began chat session himanshu – reference number 3297364. case id 29822477.

himanshu instructed me connect norton.com take control of computer.  it’s obvious me have done block try connected norton. nothing work. himanshu instructed me reboot in safe mode – didn’t work either.  himanshu suggested right away change our passwords, have done.

the names of companies involved scam are: cyber compatibles inc. (*** email address removed privacy *** , cng services llc (*** email address removed privacy ***). next step try , money back. file complaint federal trade commission.

so, do?  can’t seem in touch himanshu.  tried power eraser – showed nothing.

i pretty desperate @ point!  hope can help.

sam took me business in california businesses.

so, know long i've not been able find number can talk someone. reading of letters people have been scammed doesn't me fix current problem.

today received call same people -they knew password , computer.  again saying computer infected things worse virus, etc etc because  ms security license expired , $349 $700 (depending on number of years) renew security license , depending on how pay, continue protect computer. when pointed out had paid ( lot!) lifetime protection, said virus protection!! 

so, after of this, here question.. can renew security license myself , how rid of programs have put on computer?

i sorry length of post need expert opinion on next!

0  never talk them again.  not pay them anything.  never give them or other unsolicited caller / emailer access computer.

1  backup own files [documents etc] external drive or usb memory stick [which scanning later].

2**  create windows 10 installation disk [usb/dvd] using http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

3**  boot installation disk

4**  reinstall windows 10 run updates [don't update during installation when suggests complicates things , delays completion]

[**  if have windows 10 factory image restore facility provided computer maker can use instead - see computer manual or website.  have same effect reinstallation include putting in relevant hardware drivers otherwise have wait windows update search out you.  put on many / / utilities computer maker had put on computer when received have never heard complain losing them , many can downloaded computer maker's website anyway.  still want run windows update afterwards because there lots of software updates factory image old have included.]

5  if have additional internal hard drives [even laptops do] reformat them [you can scan them windows defender own peace of mind before putting data on them].

6  scan external drives windows defender before copying more them or them [this might seem be very late in day doing this but scanning existing installation might have been corrupted there no point doing earlier].

7  if usb memory sticks , external drives have connected computer have been connected other computers owners scan other computers as well.

8  use guidance in help protect pc windows defender offline  and, if want, the malware section of forum run complete scan using "windows defender offline", particular mode of windows defender.  final reassurance okay [it okay because malware picked @ stage not earlier rare].

9  whether reinstall norton afterwards.  on past year or have experimented norton, mcafee, bitdefender, kaspersky, ... performance of windows defender has improved not bother considering else anymore.  i have kept the free version of malwarebytes additional manual scans old habit cannot shake off.

10  it bit of shot in dark have heard people told credit card companies payments concerned had been obtained fraud , refunded.

11  assume every internet banking login & other passwords have been compromised , change them straightaway.  assume every piece of personal information has been copied view exploiting information so, example, warn banks if had account numbers recorded in documents in computer.

12  write out 1 hundred times, "i must not talk strange men."
