how did have things shared before?

was main device holding shared files, win10 computer previously?

are both devices still on private (not public) network? -> in windows explorer on left (left) click on 'network', click @ banner (ava if network set public near top of windows explorer) , make private.  (there many ways to change a network from public private.)

have considered network harddrive, (some routers have usb port 'usb external harddrive' can used network storage (check mfg of router)?

to network win10 computer (the old fashion way), common user account (same username , password) must exist on each computer.

type netplwiz in search box -> run command... uncheck box next 'users must enter user name , password use computer' , hit apply

"why need password..."-> it's safety , security thing, protection.  and allow access many of various products , services in microsoft ecosystem (i.e. word, onedrive, etc),  & enhance user experience , productivity.
