Windows Explorer Crashing on .mod files - Microsoft Community


hello.  weird problem got windows 10.  windows explorer crashing whenever right click on .mod file (or hover on it).

the .mod file modification file game.  not 1 file.  made text document , changed extension .mod, , cause explorer crash when right click on it.  home computer.  tried same thing @ work, , crashing when try right clicking  on .mod file.

things have tried:

1.  changing file extension default program movies , tv else.

2.  ran registry cleaner.

3. command line scan corrupt files (found none).

4. editing registry remove program association .mod file, though honest not sure did correctly.  (i did export before trying this, able undo when didn't work.)

5. using shellexview shut down non-windows context menus shell extensions.

windows 10 date.  know fact file type did not cause problem, month ago.  , again, happening on more 1 computer.  (can test on their's, create dummy .mod file, , try right clicking on in explorer.)

and lastly no other file type causing issue (though fair have not gone , right clicked every file type, sampling.)

any thoughts?

i had exact same problem yesterday: hovering on .mod file in explorer close explorer windows. looks latest "cumulative update windows 10 version 1607 x64-based systems (kb4015438)" fixes problem, @ least did me.

WTouch_Message_Window app running in the background is preventing - Microsoft Community

Windows error No Certificate Available - Microsoft Community
