Unable to verify identity in Windows 10 - goes into infinite loop - Microsoft Community

in w10 'settings'/'accounts' asked confirm identity.  enter correct password microsoft account but w10 goes infinite loop asking me enter password.  has old log-in name ms account no longer primary alias field (in w10) not user-alterable.  suggestions, please.  note:  ignoring issue, can sign ms account fine.

got "creators update" today (15th may) - did not solve problem though behaviour in settings / accounts different - message  need fix microsoft account before can use windows features - "manage microsoft account' no longer present - unable sync settings across devices because claims i'm not logged in ms account - not surprising since underlying problem windows trying log me in ms account not exist.

searching forums see other people similar problems have done - found 1 reference solving problem setting windows use local account , resetting use ms account - works.

(1) log in microsoft account (on ms web site).  go security tab, add phone number receive security alerts , remove old (non-existent) e-mail address.  important ms doesn't require response non-existent e-mail.

(2) in w10 settings/accounts start procedure set to log in using local account - when finished, error message microsoft account has not been updated local account (again, not surprising since ms account it's trying change doesn't exist) - ignore.  log off.

(3) try log on w10.  need use local account set (so above error message doubly erroneous).  go settings and go through process use ms account.  log off.

(4) try log on w10.  need use ms account - go settings - yippee, seems ok (need verify using code sent phone number entered in step 1).
